The best part of it all is that his character today is something I can proudly claim was effort put in by both Fran and I. His walks, his care, his feedings- they all have revolutionized the way Fran and I interact with one another. I love how his evening walks call us to put our chores, technology, work on the back-burner and focus on one another without any of the usual distractions that would normally be found in the house.
En route to one of Doakes' favorite parks.
Doakes has also forced us to look for more ways to hang out with him. As in, Fran and I hate leaving our Doaksie boy at home and have turned to seek new ways (and places) to bring our big lovebug along for the ride. The Houston summer has made this a bit of a challenge but places like Discovery Green & the Boneyard have us bringing him happily along (because if you've met him, you know he's quite the party animal).
Hanging out at the Boneyard, doggie bar on Washington (go support them!)
As corny as what I am about to type is, it's the truth. While Fran and I may have rescued Doakes, in reality he came in and saved us from complacency. Life before Doakes wasn't unhappy or unsatisfactory, by any means. But, looking back I can see that there were days we would fall into the technology rut- where our professional lives took over the nurturing of our relationship. So, thank you my Doaksie boy for coming in and demanding things to change. I'll have to make a note to bring you home an extra big bone later this week.
He is dino-mite!
