Carl & Ellie (Dahnya)

If you sniffled your way through Disney's Up, you know that the relationship Ellie & Carl share is truly beautiful. The Ellie badge, the jar of coins, the mutual support, the endearing love the other had for each other...it is one of my top five movies of all time. It's a teary comedic adventure for everyone!

Fun Fran fact: he bawled like a baby within the first ten minutes of the movie. He's so cute (and will probably kill me for revealing this). And, although Fran doesn't know this yet, I would love to recreate the picnic scenes from the movie in an anniversary photo shoot...please join me in my campaigning efforts! After all, those that know him, can't you already hear his grumbles and adamant denials? Be on the lookout June 2011 because I aim to win!

Anyway, after watching the movie, the image of the two opposing reading chairs (those that are clueless scroll down to the end) has been permanently emblazoned in my subconscious. Anytime I walk into a resale shop, I keep an eye open to see if I can spot a his & her reading chair but it's been two years and (if you've been to Mildred) you know it has not happened.

Well, the other day on my drive home from work I spotted a red dot in the distance. As I drove closer to it, the clear outline of a red wingback chair begin to appear. Like a little kid, I started clapping in delight (don't worry I was at a red light) and started praying that the cars ahead of me were not also looking to pick up a discarded Ellie chair. After all in my mind, I had already reupholstered the chair in a soft coral pattern and placed it in our study near Doakes' crate, how dare they take my dream away from me?!

The moment the light turned green, I gunned Perlita and began circling the block to find a good parking spot. I was congratulating myself for wearing pants and flats, hauling a discarded chair in my usual skirt or dress would not have been conducive to modesty- it was like the stars were aligning! Up to the point where I parked and walked to the chair.

From the back the chair seemed to be in perfect shape. In fact, the velvet upholstery seemed to have a healthy gleam to it. That is, until I walked around and noticed the broken side panels and extremely questionable stains on the cushion. Needless to say, I was heartbroken, there was no saving the chair.

Rear view.

Unfortunately, I did not think to take a frontal picture- I was too disappointed. Utterly dejected I walked back to my car and proceeded to try and push what could have been a super cool story out of my mind. So, in conclusion, if you spot a potential Carl or Ellie chair, please let me know. I will forever be indebted to you.

I cannot help but cry every time.
