Sgt. James Doakes (Francis)

For those of you that haven't heard already Dahnya and I have a new addition to the Mildred household. His name is Sgt. James Doakes he is an American Bulldog. He was a stray picked up in Kileen, TX and was going to be put down due to overcrowding and possibly because he is a pit (I may be betraying a bias here). In any event Texas Bulldog Rescue posted a picture of him on Facebook and we immediately fell in love. Take a look at my Facebook for photos of our first meeting!

So it's been three days now with him and we are loving it! The Sarge is our first major project together and so far I think Dahnya and I are doing awesome. We've had to stay on him but we are making progress. In spite of everything he has been through he has such a great temperament. Our little guy has been really receptive and eager to please. He has been so great I have even been able to take him to UH to hang out while I worked. Here's a photo of him lying down on the job in the wood shop.

Today in the studio at home was a bit of a different story but we will get there. Thanks to our great friends and dog experts Grant and Karen we have a Cesar Milan book to read and some videos will be coming soon. Thanks guys!

Our little monster (as Dahnya's mom affectionately nicknamed him) may not be a hardcore badass like his namesake but we wouldn't have him any other way.

See any resemblance?.. Yeah not really but Erik King (the actor who plays Doakes) described his character as a pitbull. That worked for us.

Here's to a long and healthy dog's life Sarge!

  1. The picture of Sarge napping in the studio melts my heart! Not to mention, the colors are awesomely striking with the red in the background.
