My typical cider, my boys and I.
Shun me if you must but there is something about beer that I have never quite grown attuned to. I'm always willing to take a sip from bottles in the quest to find The Beer that I can then proudly ask for at any dive bar (excluding pale ales at the Tall Texan, sheesh) and hate to say it but, I am still currently looking.
My quest is not for myself, it's for my husband.
Now cupcakes and beer are extremely different but I will provide the following story as an parallel of why I wish I could grow a liking to beer:
Anytime Fran and I go to a cupcake shop, we always do the Halfsies Rule. No. It's not split one cupcake and one only. It's "you choose one" and "I'll choose another" then we share half the cupcake so as to taste more than one and not feel like fatties. Unfortunately, we cannot do that when we go to bars. Poor guy always spends hours poring through the beer menu torn between two or three "flavors" (what would this be called in beer terms?) and I know he's thinking, "if only my wife would drink beer I'd get to try them all (without feeling overly indulgent)"!
This is a weak baby step into the beer world but, at least this weekend we had a chance to share awesome cupcakes with root beer! I didn't say it to him but I was patting myself on the back for sharing a "beer" with my husband as we diligently washed our cupcakes down outside Crave.
Another way I hope to help broaden my beer horizons? Kroger's beer sampler.
I took it as a sign that my beer awakening is on the right track when my go-to Woodchuck and Fran's current favorite (Japanese beer) were side by side in the fridge.
As weird as my quest may be, it's only a way to find more things to share with the best hubs I could have ever asked for. After all, in the middle of typing out this entry, he walked into Mildred with a surprise raspa. Keeper? I think so.
Beer! Have you tried any of the following:
ReplyDelete1) Blue Moon
2) Purple Haze
3) Lawnmower
4) Weedwacker
If so, and you didn't like them...then we could also not go halvesies, haha. Cheers to your beerscursion!
Good luck on your mission to find a beer you like! Roy always has me taste his beer (this one is lighter, more fruity, less hopy, etc) and they always taste the same to me!
ReplyDeleteCupcakes and root beer sound like an awesome combo!
Yes do not EVER ask for Pale Ale again at the Tall Texan...hahahahaha
