home sweet home (dahnya)

It's been almost two weeks that Fran, Doakes & I have settled into the house and as of last night: we have internet! Not only am I able to catch up on the Vampire Diaries Netflix, it also means I can finally dust off the neglected blog.

It's been a busy few weeks. Between the packing in Houston and the unpacking in Fort Worth, there has not been much time to miss Mildred. The "new" house (it's been around since 1949) is solid and already feeling like home. It's missing a lot of what Mildred had to offer (ie: Tampico) but what it's lacking in sweet neighbors and fresh Mexican goodies it makes up with a giant backyard, an extra room and a lake.

Yes! That's right. One block behind the house is a park with a jogging trail encircling a gorgeous (if somewhat questionable) lake. Doakes & I have enjoyed huffing running around it in the mornings.
the quartet of duckies gossiping early in the a.m.

Aside from our rather unfriendly neighbors (seriously, don't get me started) the only downer to the house I have at the moment is this wooden wall:
I am looking to see how I can try to camouflage it as much as possible without painting it but...as of yet I'm not having any luck. Of course Fran would find this wall to be one of the house's "selling pieces".

My favorite room in the house, is here: the study. I would share more of it but it is currently the dumping ground. It's housing all my teacher supplies (the job search is on as of today) and boxes of books. I am trying to bide my time so I can convince Fran to make a few bookshelves in order for this room to be fully outfitted.

It took a while to find the perfect place for us three (owning a 90 pound "aggressive breed" dog certainly didn't help) but, I think Fort Worth/Dallas & Arlington are going to be good to us. UTA has recceived Fran with open arms and already the people we have met have been beyond sweet. All that's left is for me to find a job.

In the meantime, whenever you're ready to venture out, there's a room with comfy air mattresses awaiting you!

  3. Yay!!! Step one, put moth balls in your yard to ward off snakes. Momecca came out, sorry.

The house is adorable, I'm sorry about the neighbors, but I'm glad co-workers are great!

I cannot WAIT to amble up your way to pay a visit. And to hear the new name of the house!

    Ciao, bella!

  4. Yeah we were spoiled by our neighbors in Houston, they would BBQ all the time and drink and send over plates of fajitas and handmade tortillas and shots of tequilas and Mexican Porn, true story, but they were really nice. Yeah Mexicans know how to be neighbors! Now go read my blog post it has Robin Sparkles in it!
