Our favorite Reverend is known for starting traditions and seeing as Beach Church is not able to take place thanks to the weather being weather...eating has taken over.
This weekend we tried a place near Mildred, Stella Sola. Three things that immediately sold it:
1. It's by the same guys that started Reef (bailey's milkshake geniuses!)
2. Celebrity connection: one of the chefs made it to the top 5 on Iron Chef America
3. It's a few blocks from Mildred (and across the street from one of my favorite places, Glasswall)
Not only was the service top notch- our water guy was sweetly attentive and our waiter was fun to banter with- but best of all: the food was stellar (ha-ha). We nibbled on a cheese plate with the best apple/green tomato chutney I will probably ever taste while sipping on three dollar mimosas (and bloody mary's).
The entree was a no brainer. Fran and I are big hamburger fans which led to our dual choice- except he was a bit more adventurous by adding on a fried egg to his Orange Label burger. The secret touch? The burger was on a pretzel bun. Yes. It was awesome.
If you have a chance: go! The dinner plates are a bit pricey ($25-30 range) but brunch was completely reasonable at around $12 per person. Next time we go back, I am making sure to save room for dessert!
In the meantime, we're on the hunt for brunch spots around Houston. If you know of any please share.
Baba Yega's near the corner of Montrose and Westheimer had a great spread. But it was $19 a person. Pricey, but tasty!!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had more to share...brunch is one of my favorites!
There was a great diner in Tampa...
We should take you guy to Moon Tower Inn, its an awesome place for Hot Dogs, or should I say Haute Dogs, eeeh. They are more like fancy sausages on a pretzle bun. But they are down the street from us and delicious!
ReplyDeleteI went to Moon Tower Inn and the hipster douche on the grill kept putting all his friends dogs on first so I didn't get mine for literally an hour. They were really good and everyone is saying I should give it another shot.
ReplyDeleteAfter your recommendation of Reef, I feel that Bryan Caswell can do no wrong. And a hamburger on a pretzel bun?!? I cannot wait to try it for myself! *stomach growling*
